SMU’s slim chance of making the 12-team field as a second ACC team pretty much evaporated when the previously undefeated Hurricanes lost to unranked Georgia Tech, dropping Miami from fourth to ninth in the committee’s second round of rankings.

Despite the win, QB Thomas Castellanos continued to struggle — eventually getting benched early in the second quarter. This is Grayson James’ team now — Castellanos is reportedly not even traveling with the team to Dallas — ahead of the toughest matchup left on the Eagle’s schedule.
